In A Minute! (...Or Two): Ep. #59

Ep. #59: Featuring Leah Zeger and Ira Gonzalez
"All of Me"

“All of Me”, written by Gerald Marks and Seymour Simons, was initially turned down by every publisher to whom they sent it. But the lyrics “Your goodbye left me with eyes that cry, How can I go on, dear, without you?” touched the recently-widowed vBelle Bakeraudeville star , and days later she introduced “All Of Me” on the radio.

First recorded in 1931 by Ruth Etting, “All of Me” has continued to win over audiences ever since. In 1932 not only was it included in Fox Studios’ film Careless Lady, but incredibly three renditions of the song charted, with both Louis Armstrong and Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra reaching #1! Since then it has been recorded countless times by artists as wide-ranging as Ella Fitzgerald and Willie Nelson. In fact, even Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney recorded it as a duet.
